How To Make A Smart Choice With Our DVD Players Review
Posted on January 16th, 2010
The technology for dvd players has been around long enough now that it has matured and most dvd players on the market these days can be considered quality units with solid, useful features. But some are better than others. We decide to review dvd players that are available today and see which ones offer the best value for the buck.
If you read most independent reviews of dvd players these days it becomes apparent that the top manufacturers including Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba and Apex all produce excellent quality equipment that perform consistently well. However one trend becomes apparent though. Many dvd players are sold with DVI(digital visual interface) or HDMI(high-definition multimedia interface) as an alternative to the composite and S-video connections commonly seen on dvd players in the past. The difference is supposed to be that the DVI and HDMI connections are straight digital to digital connections when used with HDTVs, whereas the digital signal is converted to analog for transmission through a S-video and composite video cable and then converted back to digital on HDTVs. This is supposed to provide cleaner video since it avoids the conversions between analog and digital.
However many consumer reviewers report that the difference just isn’t all that apparent and may not be worth paying the extra money for the DVI or HDMI connections. So most people can actually do just fine with most conventionally priced dvd players on the market instead.
Here are a few models that have scored well in many dvd player reviews:
1. A very popular and inexpensive dvd player is the Pioneer DV-578A. It is a progressive scan player which has a component video output for improved video performance and a built in Dolby 5.1 surround sound decoder. It also is capable of playing various DVD formats including DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and both CD-R and CD-RW as well. It’s a high quality versatile single disc player that would do a great job in any home entertainment setup. Cost – around $100.
2. The JVC XV-N510B is another dvd player in this single disc category that rates very highly on many consumer dvd player reviews. It also can use component video outputs for better video display, supports both Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround sound as well as virtual surround sound for those that have only a two speaker system, and features audio dynamic range control to help limit excessively loud sounds. It also displays practically all DVD disc formats that you could use even including DVD-RAM. Cost – around $120.
When you read a dvd player rating here on the web or elsewhere you often see these two models listed very highly and given excellent reviews. So why pay more for features that don’t really offer more value? By choosing models like the ones mentioned above and their counterparts you can get great performance and great value in the same package.

Features To look For When You Buy A DVD Player
Posted on January 15th, 2010
It’s not hard to see why DVD players have taken the video world by storm. All you have to do is watch a movie on DVD and then watch that same movie on VHS tape instead. The difference can be startling. So just as CDs took over the audio world, DVDs are dominant in the video world, and DVD players are a staple of the home entertainment center, and certainly of a home theater setup too.
So what should you know when you shop for DVD players? Well, as with everything a lot depends on your budget but here are some of the features to look for when you buy a DVD player:
* In the electronics world, cable connections are very important and it’s no different with DVD players. Almost all DVD players come with a standard composite-video cable to connect the player to the TV, and this kind of cable can produce a decent picture. But it’s also very limiting because the black and white, and color video signals are all sent together through this cable and it’s easy for the colors to bleed over into other colors and lose detail and sharpness. If your DVD p[layer comes with a S-video cable this can dramatically improve the video as this cable can separate out the black and white from the color signals resulting in greater clarity. Finally if you get a DVD player that can use a component-video cable that can be the best yet because it also splits the color signal too, allowing even greater color range and detail.
* It’s good to have an aspect control feature on a DVD player too. Many DVD movies are coming now in different formats to fit whatever TV you have. The aspect control lets you take advantage of this and tune the movie to the specific ratio that best fits the size of your television screen.
* Some DVD players have multi-angle capability built in and that can be useful at times too. It doesn’t work with all DVDs, but with those that are compatible, it’s pretty cool. It actually allows you to adjust the picture angle so that you can view the action from different perspectives.
* Having surround sound decoding built into your DVD players can be very useful too, especially if you have a Dolby Digital receiver and at least six speakers to achieve the 5.1 surround sound effect. If your receiver does not have the Dolby 5.1 decoder built into it then you need to have it decoded by the DVD player before it is sent to the receiver. Once at the receiver the signal is amplified and distributed to the appropriate speakers in the room.
If you wish to use the more recent 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound systems you will need to have the decoder for that on your DVD player too, and either 7 or 8 speakers to match.
These are some of the features that can be most useful when you are playing DVDs, so look for them the next time you want to buy a DVD player.

Posted on January 11th, 2010
A digital versatile disc player or a DVD player is a device that plays discs produced in DVD video and DVD audio formats. Most of these players allow users to play audio and video compact discs (CDs) also. The player reads and obeys the DVD’s regional lockout codes and displays a warning if it is not authorised to play the DVD. These players usually read a DVD disc in ISO – UDF version 1.2 format. Most DVDs are of the same dimensions as a CD but can store up to 6 times as much data.

Some new players also play videos in MPEG-4 ASP video compression format. They are usually cheaper than VCRs. Presently; China is the largest producer of DVD players. There is also another variety of players that is called software DVD players. These players allow the users to view DVD videos on a computer. Some examples of software DVD players include VLC Media Player, PowerDVD and WinDVD.

The LG’s DivX portable DVD player (PDP) has a 7 inch wide swivel LCD screen. The player supports a number of file formats like VCD, JPEG, DivX, CD-R and WMA. The Next Generation Of Dvd Players For Your Vehicle
Posted on January 10th, 2010
The words High Definition are words that you will hear a lot more often nowadays. The normal DVD players present movies in a four by three aspect ratio. Lately, the sixteen by nine or the widescreen format is becoming more and more popular. High Definition DVDs are presented in the widescreen sixteen by nine format so if you would like to enjoy the latest movies then it is highly recommended that you purchase the latest High Definition DVD players in the market today. Although these players are a bit pricey, these prices will drop sooner or later anyway.

There are two basic types of High Definition DVD players. The first type of High Definition DVD player plays discs in HD format or High Definition format. The other type of High Definition DVD player plays discs in the Blu-Ray format. Although both are considered to be high definition, you are unlikely to find a high definition player that can play both types of formats in the market today. Do not find it confusing that there are two formats, High Definition and Blu-Ray, because they are both basically high in definition. This means that discs in this format have up to six times of resolution than the normal discs out there. If you pay a lot of attention to detail then you should certainly consider purchasing a DVD player that is capable of playing these two formats.

You will come to the crossroads of choosing whether to purchase a high definition player that plays the High Definition discs or a high definition player that plays the Blu-Ray discs. If you are from the North American region then it is highly recommended that you purchase the high definition players whilst if you are from the Japanese area then you should purchase the Blu-Ray high definition players. The war between High Definition and Blu-Ray has just begun. No one has any idea on which format will dominate in the future. If you are planning to purchase a next generation DVD player then you are going to take a risk.

The next generation of DVD players have a lot to offer to the consumers. If you are the movie goer then you are certainly going to enjoy these high definition movies in your vehicle. There isn’t much difference in terms of quality between the High Definition format and the Blu-Ray format although you should choose a DVD player that will run most of the discs in your neighbourhood.

Enjoying your DVD experience in your vehicle is certainly one of the greatest pleasures in travel. Should you buy a next generation DVD player for your vehicle today? If you are just as excited as many out there then buying a next generation DVD player may be a great luxury to spend on. If you are fine with the normal DVD player in your vehicle then it may not be worth spending almost double the price for a next generation DVD player. It may be better if you wait it out a little bit longer.

The Latest New Age DVD Players
Posted on January 9th, 2010
A standard CD-Rom could hold only 700 MB of data. Later on CDs with more storage space were manufactured but failed to attract the attention of the buyer. Additional storage space meant an increase of 50 to 60 MB, which was not much considering the data requirement of the end user. So, a new removable storage medium was required to suffice the need of the consumers. DVD technology or Digital Video Disk simply transformed the whole data storage concept. Computers played all forms of DVDs with compatible players but DVD Players played only a selected format.

What is a DVD player? Simply, it is a player or device that is able to play two different standards, DVD video and DVD audio. The player has to be connected to the TV for the display. Some devices come with mini LCD screens, which are there as a smaller counterpart of the TV set.

The new age DVD players succeeded the present breed of DVD media. Blu-ray disk player and HD DVD players are the two trying to capture the consumers with their upgraded quality and high storage space.

DVD players run on the MPEGII standard of video compression. For a standard VCD compression, the CODEC used was MPEGI technology also known as MPEG format. 1 minute of video took 10 MB space. The MPEGII format support a much higher bit rate to give a constant quality for both video and audio.

New age DVD players support more formats like DivX, Xvid and x264. All are compressive technologies giving sharper pictures at lower bit rates. Another compression catching on is the h264 standard also known as MPEG IV part 10 with Advanced Video Coding.

New age DVD players are the ones that are capable of playing the next generation of DVDs. A standard single channel DVD can hold roughly 4.7 GB. However, a DVD can be dual channel or double layered, the storage capacity can be up to 17 GB.

The latest in the technology is the HD DVD brought out by Toshiba. Media Control Gfk International reported that out of the total number of next generation storage medium sold in the year 2007, 27 percent are HD DVD. Therefore, it is obvious the new age DVD players are being sold fast to play these disks. The main problem in creating the next generation standard is availability of two different media, Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Both Sony and Toshiba are trying to make their products the standard for the next generation

This continuous competition of the manufacturers for upgraded DVDs is creating a problem for the new age DVD players. When the format is not finalized, it is not too good a prospect to make a device, so the manufacturers are both looking at the media sale to finalize their next step. Samsung, Sony, LG, Phillips, Sharp and APEX are the popular ones. All the gaming consoles PS2, Xbox, PSP, GBA, PSX and others also support playing DVDs. Sony Play Station 3 is also supporting their latest Blu ray disk.

DVD Player: the Dream of Unmatched Viewing is Now a Reality!
Posted on January 8th, 2010
Let us understand the concept of the DVD technology before having a brief look at the latest DVD players. A Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) is a popular optical disc storage format, which is mostly used to store audio, video and data files. A DVD can easily store up to six times more data than a compact disc. A DVD player supports the playback of DVDs so that you can easily enjoy unparalleled movie experience while sitting in your living room. Not only this, the movie quality delivered by a DVD player is exceptionally high.

There are many leading manufacturers of DVD players in the present day market. Some of the leading names are Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic and Pioneer, to name a few. With the resurgence of the DVD market in a somewhat positive and significant manner, the present day market is flooded with cheap DVD players.

These cheap DVD players though cheap in terms of their prices are high on the quality parameters. But you need to judge them before making any purchases. This is because there are some low-quality DVD players in the markets that are complete replicas of the brand logos and deigns but fail to deliver the original quality and performance of genuine products.

So, if you are looking for cheap and high-quality DVD players then the Samsung P475 and P172 DVD players are good buying options for you. These Samsung DVD players are high on overall performance and allow you to have a feel of the magical DVD viewing experience.

However, there are certain things that need to be duly considered before making the purchase of a DVD player. These things may include overall quality, consistency and reliability of performance, price, brand awareness and customer service etc. So, if you are looking for a good DVD player, you just cannot ignore these important factors. After all, DVD players are not purchased daily.

DVD Players and Their Utility
Posted on January 7th, 2010
DVD Players are devices that play discs with the technical standards of both the DVD Videos and DVD Audios. The DVD players can be used for excellent interactive learning apart from fun games and brain bending puzzles. There are certain tasks that this player has to complete in order to display the final video show.

The player reads a DVD disc in ISO and UDF version. The data of the disc is then optionally decrypted. The device reads the DVD’s lockout codes and obeys by it. It also displays a warning signal if the player is not capable to play the DVD. The player also decodes the MPEG-2 video stream with a speed of 10 Mbit /sec or 8 Mnit /sec. The task of the player is not just limited to decoding videos. It also decodes sounds in formats such as MP2, PCM and AC-3. The sound is then sounded with a stereo connector and optical & electric digital connector. The output of all these processes is a video signal that is either in analog form supporting formats such as NTSC, PAL or SECAM or in digital form that works on DVI or HDMI connectors.

The latest DVD Players are available with LCD screens whereas the hardware DVD players need to be connected to a television set. Then only it becomes possible for the user to play games and watch videos on the TV screen. However, the latest DVD players come with an additional CD playback support. Most of the DVD players can be used by the users to play audio & video CDs and they also include a home cinema decoder. There are also some latest versions of these players that play videos in the latest MPEG – 4 ASP compression format.

The price of the DVD players are very reasonable. The cheap DVD player can download music and animation programs which when played on the screen of the device make every moment very interesting. The music downloads can also be copied on CD or a DVD by making use of the burn option of the writing software installed in the player.
